Okay, so I haven't been posting anything here because my life right now is pretty much consumed with beginning my homeschooling journey. It occupies all my free time these days but I can say that it is lessening now that I've got some foundation down. I realized that it was quite hard because I couldn't find too many resources that met my exact needs, which is generally the case, but it made me want to share what I am doing with others so that I might help someone else, and in turn perhaps get some help and support myself. Hence, I will be focusing on homeschooling in my blog now, but, of course, it will be homeschooling down under. Now I just have to think of a new title. Hmmm...
Back to that later. The homeschooling is going really well. I have found a number of useful resources and I will figure how to compile those here in my blog. My approach to homeschooling will be the Christian Classical model, which I am quite excited about. I have just found it difficult to find good resources and/or explanations of what to begin to do with my five year old. However, I think I've gotten one step closer to figuring that out.
One part of the schooling that I need to expand on is field trips. We do, after all, live in Australia and will only live here for about a year longer. So we really need to make the best of some field trips. This week we joined the Melbourne Museums, which means that my husband and I can get into four different museums for free and get numerous discounts. I really think it's excellent and because I am now a member, I feel more pressure to visit so as to make the membership worth it. I've got it figured out exactly how many visits I need to do to make out on this deal. Suprisingly, it's not actually that many.
Other than the homeschooling, life is going swimmingly here in Oz. I am still not comfortable using "mate" at the end of my sentences so I have become too Aussie. When I go back to Pittsburgh, I am really going to miss the flat streets that are very easy and inviting to walk. Although, admittedly, I could still do the same in Pitt and get quite a work out on the hills.
Anyway, I must end here and go think of a new title.
